Songs that should be in Rock Band: Bang on the Drum All Day

That's right, the Carnival Cruise Line theme... I mean, of course I knew of this song before they started using it... of course. I just think it would be a really fun song to play on the keyboard, although it does sound a bit repetitive. It could be a simpler song to get used to playing with the keyboard.

Songs that should be in Rock Band: Can't Stop

Huh, it seems as though I have broken my tradition of alternating between older song and newer song. This is "Cant' Stop" by Red Hot Chili Peppers and it's one of my favorite songs by them. I find it strange that they haven't been on Rock Band in quite a long time. I remember some rumors flying around that they had some kind of deal with Guitar Hero, but that's dead now. Perhaps they might be able to get some more of their songs on the music store soon since they have a new album releasing soon, and they can promote it with Rock Band sort of like other bands like Foo Fighters has been doing.

Songs that should be in Rock Band: Again

Yes, again, I am late for this article and I probably will be again and again and again and again. Get it? This is one of my favorite songs by Alice in Chains, and it wasn't included in one of the two packs that have been released so far. I'd really love to see this song become available so I can can sing it at my nonexistent rock band parties.

By the way... doesn't Layne Staley look like Albert Wesker from Resident Evil in this music video?

Songs that should be on Rock Band - Lonely is the Night

Wow, I'm super-late for this article for this week. Better late than never though. I just put on my grooveshark and this song came on and reminded me that I should post this article. I think since no one around me, even online, doesn't talk about Rock Band anymore and I haven't been playing it as much lately, so I just haven't given thought to this article series. I still love the idea of having a music collection that you can "play" though, that's my main draw to Rock Band.

Anyway, enough of my whining. This is "Lonely is the Night" by Billy Squier. He only has one song on Rock Band, and it was a Christmas song. Christmas songs are nice to have during the holidays, but c'mon, no one would play them year-round, it would get annoying. "Lonely is the Night" however has been a favorite song of mine ever since I was a kid. Yep, it's another one of those songs, where I would hear it on the radio during family trips to the beach. If Harmonix does put anymore Billy Squier on Rock Band, I'd love to have at least this song.

Oh, speaking of those songs. A pack of songs from Yes is going to release next week with one of those songs. Yep, I'm talking about "Owner of a Lonely Heart", it was another one of those songs that came from the 80's that I kept hearing as a child. Most Yes fans tend to hate that song because it's so unlike what Yes does, but I love it. I also love the other Yes tracks as well, so I'll be picking up the whole pack once I get some MS points.

Songs that should be in Rock Band: Bound to the Floor

Now here's a song that sort of fell under my radar as I got older and it's still under the radar of a lot of people. Not just the song, but the whole band... all two of the members. Bands consisting of just two members aren't seen very often in rock, let alone grunge-type sounding music. Also, this is probably the only song that I've ever heard the slang term 'copacetic' used in the lyrics. I listened to the album this song is on by Local H and I've heard a few of their other songs on some custom internet radio sites, but for now I'd just like to have this one major hit of theirs on Rock Band.

Songs that should be in Rock Band: Head Over Heels

So... there's this thing on the radio station here called the "80's mix cafe" that I started listening to during my lunch break at college because that's the hour that they play it. This is one of the songs they play pretty often, and it's reminded me of just how awesome Tears for Fears is... so yeah, "Head Over Heels" is an incredible awesome song, from the beginning melodies to the fantastic ending, this song is just all kinds of 1980's perfection. I'd buy this song in a heartbeat if they ever released it on the music store, so Harmonix, please get this song on there!

Songs that should be in Rock Band: Do the Evolution

I've been in a very 'Pearl Jam' mood for the past week, so I thought I would suggest one of the songs they haven't had on Rock Band yet. They've been on Rock Band for quite a while, and have two of their albums available which include Ten and Backspacer. This song is very different from anything on those albums though and has its own very distinct sound. "Do the Evolution" is one of my favorite Pearl Jam songs, not just because I often study evolutionary biology, but because it sends a pretty powerful message about human nature.

Songs that should be in Rock Band: You Wreck Me

Tom Petty has been in Rock Band a few times before, but he (nor him with the Heartbreakers) haven't had a release since the Rock Band 3 launch. Don't you think it's time they got another song? This is a song I heard the other day and I had completely forgot about it in my memory, but it immediately clicked. I can't believe they haven't put it in one of the Tom Petty packs before. Oh well, at least if they release it now it will probably have a pro upgrade. I love the chorus in this song, don't you?

Songs that should be in Rock Band: Collective Soul

I don't know what it is about this band, but I just love their sound. I started listening to Collective Soul a few years ago, and they have quite a few hits. The two I'm showing here are a couple of my favorites, though they have even more recognizable hits like "December", "Shine", and the ever-popular "Run." (Now that I listen to "Run" again, I remember it's also another favorite of mine, just by songs in general, not band-specific.)

Collective Soul is popular, but not quite popular enough to have shown on Rock Band yet, apparently. Like with Live, I hope to see something from these guys on the music store sometime soon.

Songs that should be in Rock Band: Twilight Zone

This is Golden Earring's other big hit, "Twilight Zone." I like that they included "Radar Love" in Rock Band 3, but I like this song a lot better. There's just something about it that makes it seem so awesome. I suggested this on the Rock Band forums waaaay back before Rock Band 3 released... but I guess they thought "Radar Love" would be more suited for the Rock Band 3 setlist. Ah well... there's always hope that it will come later.

Tomorrow, Rock Band will be releasing two tracks from the band Live, which are "I Alone" (I didn't mention that track, but it is one of my favorites) and "Lightning Crashes." Remember when I told you that they should be in rock band back in March? Well, turns out, Harmonix listened. Well... not really, but I'd like to think that my article series has helped somewhat with suggestions of songs and bands to put in the game. I'm just excited that one of my requests came true! Hopefully some of my other requests will be answered this year as well.

Also, I didn't do a 'Songs that should be in Rock Band' article last week because of the E3 madness, so tomorrow, I'll be doing two of them! For those of you who actually follow this article series, thanks for the views!

Songs that should be in Rock Band: Everclear

Crap! Sorry guys! I forgot about this week's 'songs that should be in rock band' article for Tuesday! (I also forgot about a couple of assignments I needed to turn in yesterday for my online college classes... I'm so forgetful this week!)

This week's article is featuring the band Everclear. There's not any real particular reason I'd like to see them in Rock Band, it's just... well... it's another band that I thought I would see more support for by the Rock Band community. I mean seriously, Green Day gets their own freaking game and we get nothing from these guys? I know I'm mixing genres by saying that, but still! Sigh... anyways... Everclear gives me a sense of well... being in California. I do reminisce often about the times I've had there when I was a teenager... sigh...

So yeah, the two songs I chose to feature in this article are 'Father of Mine' and 'Santa Monica.' I don't have much to say about the lyrics in the first song because I have a great relationship with my dad, but I do love the way the song sounds. As far as 'Santa Monica' goes, you can probably tell why it reminds me of being a teenager in California. I've actually been to Santa Monica too. It's a pretty beautiful place.

Songs that should be in Rock Band: Go for a Soda

This song is fairly unknown... I think. I heard it on American Dad one day and looked it up because I liked the chorus for it. It's pretty catchy. I had never even heard of Kim Mitchell before looking this up... huh...

Songs that should be in Rock Band: Take a Picture

I love this song. i always wanted to make a music video with it including some of my photography. The subject matter and how the song came to be is sort of strange, but I just love how it sounds. Filter first came onto the Rock Band scene with another hit song of theirs, 'Hey Man, Nice Shot' on the Rock Band 3 setlist. I feel that it's just a matter of time now until this song gets released on the music store.

Songs that should be in Rock Band: Lunatic Fringe

Whoa, sorry, I haven't been paying much attention to the blog lately. Final exams were given in the past few days, so I haven't had much time to write anything. I'll still keep this article series going though!

This is a song I heard a few times when I was little, but the keyboard in it just stuck in my mind, so when I heard it again on the radio as an adult, it brought back many happy memories of going to the beach with my mom and dad. There's a lot of songs that I remember because of hearing them on the radio during our beach trips, and this is just one of them. I really just want to play that keyboard part because it just sounds so awesome! Not the beginning... you'll know what part I'm describing about is around 2:15 of the video.

Songs that should be in Rock Band: Hunger Strike

I say again, I wish I was a teenager in the 90's. Temple of the Dog was a band that was concieved by the lead singer of Soundgarden, Chris Cornell, as a tribute to his friend that died of a heroin overdose. There was only one album, but it had some pretty good songs on it. In this one, Eddie Vedder is actually providing lead vocals while Chris Cornell sings backing vocals. This is another one of those songs I thought of because of Rock Band 3's inclusion of harmonies. I think it would be awesome to play sing this song with one of my friends. I think I'd have to sing Eddie Vedder's part though, I have a lot of trouble emulating Chris Cornell.

Songs that should be in Rock Band: The Chain & Gypsy

Well, since I had trouble last week with my laptop, I'm going to present two songs today. Though it's not out of the ordinary, since I do present a few songs when talking about one band that hasn't been in Rock Band before, but today, it's about a band that has been in, and just had a pack of songs released a couple of weeks ago. I'm talking about Fleetwood Mac. A pack was released recently with a few of their hits along with a couple of solo works from Stevie Nicks, but there were two really big hit songs that were left out: The Chain and Gypsy.

I've always loved Fleetwood Mac, but never really knew it until I started getting into music a few years ago. I think these two songs will be a very welcome addition to the Rock Band library, and I actually think they probably have them on hold, but may be using them for something bigger.

Songs that should be on Rock Band - Bush

Alright, this week, time for some 'post-grunge' 90's rock. Bush was/is a british band that became popular in America after the grunge era, and has been labeled as a sort of 'post-grunge' rock. I have a feeling that Bush won't be in the Rock Band music store anytime soon though, with the major focus on keyboard-heavy songs due to Rock Band 3, but hey, it could happen eventually.

I'd really like to see Bush's 'Sixteen Stone' album as part of the rock band library, but that leaves out hits like 'Chemicals Between Us' which is one of my favorite Bush songs.

Songs that should be on Rock Band - Feelin' Stronger Everyday

Wow, I can't believe I almost missed one of these articles! And I actually had a lot of songs in mind for this week! Though it was actually one that I heard on the radio coming home that has been stuck in my head, and that is 'Feelin' Stronger Everday' by Chicago. I was very excited to see Chicago in the Rock Band 3 setlist when it was revealed, and it has me clamoring for more of their songs. Playing the brass section with the keyboard does feel a bit silly, but it's fun! By the way, I was going to reserve this spot for 'Freeze Frame' by The J. Geils Band, but it was announced last Friday as DLC today! I need to get a points card so I can download that and a few other releases I've been meaning to get...

Songs that should be on Rock Band - The Distance

It's songs like this that make me wish I was a teenager in the 90's rather than the early 00's. CAKE is a very strange band, but their songs are always very interesting to listen to. I'm sure a lot of people have heard this song before, and would be ecstatic to see it release on the Rock Band music store, I know I would be. There are also a few other songs by CAKE I'd like to see available, but for now, this would do for me.
